Observation Rock Attempt 2021
Crappy weather and rocks falling every 2 minutes… no thanks, turnaround it was. Itinerary
- 3:50 AM – Leave home (2:10 hr drive)
- 6:00 AM – Arrive
- 6:15 AM – Start hiking
- 10:00 AM – At base (5 miles, 3,750 ft gain, take more direct way in, all snow free till climb itself basically)
- 10:30 AM – Climbing
- 1:30 PM – Top
- 1:45 PM – Hike off
- 2:15 PM – Back at base, hike back (5 miles, mostly downhill, 3 hours)
- 5:15 PM – Back at car
- 5:30 PM – Drive home (2:20 hr drive)
- 7:50 PM – Home
Weather
Dawn 6:12 AM, sunrise 6:40 AM, sunset 7:30 PM, dusk 7:59 PM.
Starting at 45 degrees, mostly cloudy, calm (2 mph) winds. Temps decreasing to 40 degrees once we reach elevation, windier (11 mph), but partly sunny (49% cloud cover). Temps then increasing to 50 when we get back to trailhead.
