5:45 AM – Started hiking

6 hours to Muir. Was great starting that early, snow was a little slippery but better than soft and mushy later in the day! Didn’t need spikes but was close to needing spikes.

Started off from Muir at 11:45 PM, got 10-15 minutes in and triggered a big whumph, continued for 3 more minutes and then triggered another whumph, we discussed and with a 4-2 decision we decided to turn back (46.8399, -121.7323), since we weren’t even on avy terrain yet. As we were walking back and talking to the second group, a third whumph was triggered, and their team and then the third team also turned back.

We packed up camp and descended in the darkness.

Descending took 1:52 hours.
