Multi-day trip to Port Angeles!

Things to do…

  • Junior’s Farm with the boys (1:10 hr drive from Port Angeles)
  • Try out Steeple Rock – Wings (5.8, 3 pitches, I guess sport but bring a single rack + nuts just in case, ~20 min approach, walk off descent, 45 min drive from Port Angeles)
  • The sport cragging wall near the river
  • Mt Washington SE Ridge, but it is a long approach

Junior’s Farm

Climbing plan

  • P1 (5.8, Andrew): Climb without linking to second pitch
  • Scramble+P2 (5.7, Andrew): Link and climb P2
  • Walk belay 15 yards to right
  • P3 (5.6, Alexis)
  • P4+traverse (5.6, Alexis)
  • P5 (5.6)
  • Scramble to P6 (Alexis) – Not linkable
  • P6 (5.8, Josh)
  • P7+Scramble (5.6, Alexis?)
  • P8 (5.7)

Schedule

20 mins/pitch would be 2:40 hours. So maybe 3 hours climbing. 5 rappels? 30 min/rappel? 2:30 hours rappelling?

  • 7:00 AM – Drive there
  • 8:10 AM – Park
  • 8:20 AM – Hike up (5 mins)
  • 8:25 AM – Base
  • 8:35 AM – Climb (3 hours)
  • 11:35 AM – Top
  • 12:30 PM – Descend
  • 3:00 PM – Base
  • 3:15 PM – Hike back to car
  • 3:20 PM – Car
  • 3:25 PM – Drive home (~3 hours?)
  • 6:30 PM – Home

Rappels

  1. Double rope rappel P8 + the scramble to top of P7
  2. Double rope rappel P7-P6 (~160 feet)
  3. Single rope rappel, diverging to right, Use the rappel anchor at the bottom of P6, and rappel climbers right, and stay far right, such that you’re against the vertical wall on your right. You don’t want to go straight down, you want to rappel diagonally for this one. At about 28 meters, the next anchor is on the vertical wall to the climbers right.
  4. Double rope rappel, first half goes mostly straight down, staying climbers left if anything… don’t follow down the gulley. Then from the halfway anchor, immediately trend climbers right, stay right over the buldge at the start. The next anchor is inside a small rock gully climbers right of the previous anchor. If you stay left, you’ll find a tree with a sling, that’s not the correct anchor.
  5. Double rope rappel, the next rappel goes straight down, then rappel straight down through the trees. I stayed a bit climbers left, seems like any option will get you to the ground.
