Rainier - DC Attempt
5:45 AM – Started hiking 6 hours to Muir. Was great starting that early, snow was a little slippery but better than soft and mushy later in the day! Didn’t need spikes but was close to needing spikes. Started off from Muir at 11:45 PM, got 10-15 minutes in and triggered a big whumph, continued…
Itinerary
Thursday
- 2:10 AM – Drive to Paradise (2:30 hr drive)
- 4:40 AM – At Paradise
- 5:00 AM – Hiking (6 hr hike)
- 11:00 AM – At Camp Muir (12 hrs acclimatization)
- 11:00 PM – Start climbing (4,500 ft, est. 9 hours, starting at 10,050 ft)
Friday
- 4:00 AM – Top of Cleaver (12,250 ft, no earlier than 4, want some light after cleaver, so that’s 2,200 ft gain, 4:20 hours)
- 8:00 AM – Summit, descend (descending should take half the time it took to ascend, so 4.5 hours)
- 11:00 AM – Bottom of cleaver
- 12:30 AM – Muir
- 12:30 PM – Hike back down
- 3:30 PM – At car
- 6:30 PM – Home
